Skim is a personal Library: you drop in links to videos and posts, and the service turns them into transcripts and summaries and answers questions about what you saved.
The service is run by Ivan Smetanin, a sole proprietor registered in Russia (ОГРНИП 318623400057920, ИНН 623010981364). Get in touch: hi@skim.fyi. Personal data of Russian residents is stored in Russia; the content servers are in Finland (Hetzner).
The formal documents are in Russian: the публичная оферта and the политика обработки персональных данных.
We don't collect location, contacts, calendar or health, and we don't show ads. There is no tracking across apps and websites (App Tracking).
To make a summary or answer a question, the text of the item and the question itself are sent to a language model. We work through a middleman, APIYI, which passes the request on to the model that does the work. Beyond that:
We don't sell data and we don't pass it to anyone beyond the list above.
Skim publishes pages with summaries of saved items, and search engines are welcome to index them. A page carries only what the service itself wrote — the title it came up with and the summary — plus the author of the original, the platform and a link back to it.
Nothing about you goes on such a page. Not your name, not the fact that you saved this item, not your notes, not the folder it sits in, and not the name you gave the item yourself. The page belongs to the item, not to the person who saved it.
Pages for videos from YouTube and posts from Threads include the platform's own embed, so those platforms see the visit and may set their cookies. Instagram gets a plain link instead — no third-party code on the page.
A personal link from the Share button is a different thing: those are closed to search engines and you control them.
Items and notes are kept until you delete them or delete your account. Deleted things sit in Trash for up to 30 days, then they're wiped. The server's technical logs — up to 14 days. Spending records stay on in anonymized form: they're needed to settle up with providers and no longer point to you.
You can delete your account yourself, no emails needed: in the app it's “Account → Delete Account”, on the website — on the support page.
What gets deleted: your profile, item history, folders, notes, tags, questions to the Library, device and access tokens, your skim wallet, the payment profile along with the saved card. There's no restoring any of it.
Processed videos and posts are a shared cache: someone else may have saved the very same video, and erasing it would mean deleting another person's item. Your link to it disappears, and the processing of a public video contains no personal data.
The service is not intended for children under 13.
If the rules change, the date at the top of the page changes with them. Anything substantial arrives as a message in the bot.
